A harrowing near-death experience sparked a profound journey toward spirituality and energy healing.

Acclaimed veteran director Rory Quintos is embracing a very different chapter of her life, one that has taken her beyond the glitz and pressure of the entertainment industry and into spirituality, healing and a deeper sense of purpose.

In an interview with Toni Gonzaga on her YouTube channel, Quintos opened up about how her life has changed since stepping away from directing. Today, she describes herself as an energy healer and believes she is finally living the life she was meant to have.

Looking back on more than three decades in the entertainment industry, Quintos revealed that a near-death experience in 2010 became the turning point that forced her to reassess what truly mattered.

She recalled contracting a severe case of dengue after being bitten by a mosquito while filming at an abandoned beach house in Batangas.

“This was in 2010. Dalawa kami sa set. It was a very, very bad case of dengue,” she recalled.

Her condition became so critical that her friends began calling a priest and even started preparing her eulogy while she was confined in the hospital.

For Quintos, confronting death changed her perspective on life forever. “Because when you face death, you will never go back to the way you were,” she said.

She also remembered experiencing what she described as a profound spiritual awakening during that difficult period.

“I haven’t heard of any person who’s faced death na pareho pa rin. You hear that’s a limbo period. Nararamdaman mo pala talaga na at that point, you hear that’s what they call when they see the light or when they hear it, and it says, ‘What have you done with your life?’ And that’s the point, my God, nothing,” she recalled.

That experience made her realize that the success, influence and material things she had accumulated throughout her career were not necessarily what gave life meaning.

“That’s where you realized all the money, the clout, whatever power, whatever you had, it’s really nothing. But what have you done as a soul to help humanity? Doon talaga, umiyak talaga ako,” she shared.

“It completely changed me after. From living la vida loca, I went to a life of spirituality,” Quintos added.

Her journey eventually led her to Tina Lebron’s Healing House, where she sought spiritual guidance and experienced healing herself.

It was through that experience that Quintos began to see a different calling. “Akala ko noon directing was my purpose, but a lot of times your career is not always your purpose and there’s something beyond that,” she said.

Her search for that deeper purpose eventually brought her to the Cordillera region during the COVID-19 pandemic and the shutdown of ABS-CBN, where she had built a celebrated career as one of the network’s respected directors.

Quintos admitted that she was in a difficult place in her life at the time and decided to walk away from the industry.

“Yes, I left. ABS-CBN shutdown. I said, ‘Ayoko na. I’m leaving.’ I was in very bad shape,” she recalled. “At that time I thought for good.”

Her decision reminded her of something she had wondered about since childhood: the religious women she saw entering convents and seemingly leaving their former lives behind.

“When I was young, nakikita ko ang mga madre na kapag pumasok sila sa convent, hindi mo na sila makikita, andoon na lang sila. So I always used to wonder, ‘Grabe sila, ‘no? They gave up their whole life.’ Papasok sila tapos wala na? Iyon pala kaya mong gawin, at ang sarap. It’s like a sabbatical from life. You go there, you get healed,” she said.

What she initially believed would be a permanent departure from her old life, however, became a six-year period of learning, healing and spiritual growth.

“Now it’s been six years, naaral ko na. It’s time to go back to the real world, in a different capacity naman,” Quintos said.

After years of being known for bringing some of Philippine entertainment’s biggest stars to life on screen, Quintos now finds herself pursuing a different kind of work helping others through energy healing and sharing the lessons she gained from her own journey.

Quintos’ directing credits include acclaimed films such as “Anak,” “Basta’t Kasama Kita,” “Kailangan Kita” and “Dubai,” along with the original “Pangako Sa’Yo” and its 2017 adaptation. She was also among the key figures who helped shape Star Cinema alongside Malou Santos, Olivia Lamasan, Cory Vidanes and Charo Santos.

After decades of directing acclaimed projects and stars, Quintos has now found a new story to tell through her journey as an energy healer.
