The actor stars alongside Jodi Sta. Maria in the MMFF entry “2nd Miracle in Cell No. 7.”

Actor Aga Muhlach is making a strong comeback to the big screen, but behind his return to acting is a deeply personal fitness journey that helped him regain not only his physique but also his confidence.

The actor opened up about his dramatic lifestyle transformation after being asked how he managed to lose a significant amount of weight while preparing for his upcoming movie, “2nd Miracle in Cell No. 7,” where he stars opposite actress Jodi Sta. Maria.

Aga admitted that his weight had affected his confidence to the point that he sometimes turned down acting offers because he became uncomfortable being seen in public.

“Kapag may offer talaga parang minsan nag-no ‘no’ na ako kasi nahihiya akong lumabas,” he shared on Friday.

Now, the actor said he feels more confident returning to movie projects after committing to a strict but sustainable fitness routine.

According to Aga, his transformation began in October last year, with his workout routine becoming more consistent by December.

“It’s basic food, my work-out pa, hindi ko lang pinapakita kasi pinapakita ‘yong gym,” he said. “October pa lang nag-start na ako, then December up to now walang patid ‘yon. M-W-F I [to the] gym. I have an instructor who comes to the house,” he said.

For Aga, consistency became the key to achieving his fitness goals. Aside from regular workouts, he incorporated cardio and biking into his routine while making major changes to his social life.

“So it’s really consistency. I stayed consistent with my diet, I stayed consistent with my workout, with my cardio, with my biking, and I stopped going out. Talagang nawalan ako ng social life. My social life was my bike, my gym, and my family,” he said.

He also became more disciplined when it came to social gatherings, turning down dinner invitations or limiting his time at events.

“I stopped talaga lahat mga invite sa akin ng dinner. Kung pupunta man ako, isang oras, kasi hindi ako pwede uminom, hindi rin pwede kumain. May baon lang ako palagi,” he added.

Despite the restrictions, Aga emphasized that his diet was not based on completely eliminating the food he enjoyed. Instead, he focused on calorie counting.

“It’s normal food. It’s calorie counting lang, it’s calorie deficit. So it’s as simple as that. I can have rice, I can have ice cream, I can have this and that, basta bilang ako sa calories ko. But syempre, bawas ka sa bad food. Mas natural, mas better,” he explained.

He also noted that combining his calorie deficit with consistent exercise helped accelerate his weight loss.

“So andon lang ako with my calories, plus when you work out and exercise consistently, you lift consistently, you have extra calories sa deficit mo, so mas nakaka-bawas ka. Instead na 500 a day lang, naging 1,000, so ang bilis ng pagbagsak ko,” Aga said.

With his new physique and renewed confidence, Aga is now ready to embrace more acting opportunities, beginning with his much-anticipated reunion with the big screen in “2nd Miracle in Cell No. 7.”

Jodi has officially been introduced as Aga’s leading lady in the film, the official entry of Viva Films to this year’s #MetroManilaFilmFestival.

“2nd Miracle in Cell No. 7” is set to premiere on Christmas Day. The film is written by Mel Mendoza-Del Rosario and directed by Nuel C. Naval.
