Carlos Yulo would rather not invite parents to future wedding with Chloe San Jose

The Olympic champion opens up to Karen Davila about setting boundaries for his special day.

While wedding bells may not be ringing just yet, Olympic champion Carlos Yulo already has a clear idea of how he wants his eventual wedding with longtime partner Chloe San Jose to look.

For the gymnast, the celebration should be centered on their relationship, happiness, and the love they share, not on unresolved family issues that could overshadow their special day.

During a conversation with broadcaster Karen Davila, Yulo was asked whether he would want his parents to be present if he and Chloe eventually decide to get married.

His answer reflected the continuing distance between him and his family, as he made it clear that he would rather keep the occasion focused on the two of them.

“Kasal po namin ’yon and relationship po namin. Mas pipiliin kong kami na lang,” Yulo said.

He explained that he does not want anything to take away from what should be one of the most meaningful moments of their lives.

“Ayaw ko rin masira ’yong moment para sa aming dapat dalawa. Ayaw ko ’yon mamantsahan pa,” he added.

Yulo also drew a distinction between forgiveness and reconciliation. While he has chosen to forgive the things that happened in the past, he indicated that doing so does not necessarily mean reopening relationships or returning to how things were before.

“Marami na silang ginawa na pinatawad ko na and hanggang doon na lang,” he shared.

The estrangement traces back to the period following his historic run at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he won two gold medals in men’s gymnastics.

In previous reports, his mom, Angelica Yulo, publicly blamed San Jose for allegedly coming between the athlete and his family, an accusation the content creator has rejected. Yulo, meanwhile, has separately said that the falling-out stemmed from alleged mismanagement of his earnings by his mother, who previously handled his finances.

Despite the unresolved family situation, Yulo appears determined not to let the past define what could be an important milestone with Chloe.

“I really want it to be full of love and joy,” he said.

Carlos and Chloe have yet to announce wedding plans, but Yulo’s remarks offer a glimpse of the intimate, love-filled celebration he hopes for if they eventually walk down the aisle.
