
The Philippine peso lost nearly 14 centavos to extend its drop to a fourth day, while local shares shed another 50 points to push closer toward the 5,600 mark.
The Philippine peso weakened by nearly 14 centavos to close at ₱62.775 against the US dollar on Thursday, October 1, 2026, extending its losses for a fourth consecutive trading session.
The local currency touched an intraday low of ₱62.795, weakening by 12.5 centavos compared to Wednesday’s intraday trough of ₱62.67, as the peso moved closer to the ₱63 mark.
Equities extend losses for fourth straight day
Meanwhile, the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) dropped 50.01 points, or 0.88%, to close at 5,629.47, extending its decline for a fourth straight session. The index moved closer to the 5,600 level after falling further below the 6,000 threshold.
Thursday’s session kicked off the new month on a cautious note across local financial markets. The PSEi continued its steady retreat as selling pressure pushed valuations deeper below key technical levels, while the peso edged closer to retesting its record lows against the US dollar.
