Asia’s Songbird retires “And I Am Telling You” and three other hits as she nears 60.

After decades of belting out some of the most challenging songs in OPM and beyond, Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez is ready to leave four of her signature numbers behind as she enters a new chapter in her musical journey.

During the second night of her sold-out “Finale” concert series at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on October 18, the award-winning singer shared that she may no longer perform some of her most demanding songs as she approaches her 60th birthday.

The four songs she plans to retire are “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing,” “On the Wings of Love,” “And I Am Telling You (I’m Not Going),” and “What Kind of Fool Am I?”

These powerhouse numbers have long been audience favorites, highlighting Regine’s remarkable vocal range, soaring high notes, and ability to deliver emotionally charged performances. However, the singer admitted that performing them has become more challenging with age.

“In four years, I will be 60. It’s just a big stage, so I decided to retire some of my songs. So, some of my songs you heard tonight, you probably won’t hear anymore. I probably won’t sing them anymore. Why? Because I can’t anymore, I don’t have that voice for them anymore,” Velasquez told the audience.

While the decision marks the end of an era for some of her most recognizable performances, Regine is not leaving the music industry. She is expected to continue accepting select performances and special projects, even as she steps back from major solo concerts.

Her four-decade career has cemented her place among the Philippines’ most celebrated singers, with these iconic songs serving as a testament to the vocal prowess and artistry that endeared her to generations of music lovers.

The three-night “Finale” concert series, which began on October 17 and concluded on October 19, celebrates Regine’s 40 years in the music industry.
