Fans joke, speculate about more intense stunts being allowed.
The University Athletic Association of the Philippines has ended its partnership with the National Cheerleading Championship, fueling speculation that the university-level competition may change its rules on allowed stunts.
In a statement on October 28, the NCC said it was no longer affiliated with the 2026 UAAP Cheerdance Competition.
“All competition judges, staff, and other personnel involved are hired solely as individuals by the UAAP CDC Committee, and not as members of the NCC Organization,” the group clarified.
The Rules and Regulations, Competition Flow, and Results Tally are also now the sole property and responsibility of the UAAP CDC Committee, the NCC added.
“We thank the UAAP for trusting us as a partner the last 12 years,” the NCC said.
The UAAP has yet to comment on the end of the partnership, while the NCC has not disclosed the reasons for the split.
Netizens speculate that the separation could pave the way for more intense stunts at the upcoming UAAP CDC on November 21. The NCC follows the rules of the International Cheer Union, which prohibit stunts and actions that may place participants at heightened risk.
