Firms suspended over fake and mislabeled fertilizers tied to gov’t supply programs.
Several fertilizer firms have been suspended by the Department of Agriculture following reported violations involving counterfeit products, mislabelling, and unauthorized distribution activities.
The Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority said the sanctions were issued after a series of investigations and compliance checks covering fertilizer manufacturers, distributors, and registrants. Some firms were found selling off-specification fertilizer products and moving stocks already subject to “Stop Sale, Stop Use, Stop Move, and Hold” orders.
The Department of Agriculture said it is also looking into possible involvement of regional personnel for alleged collusion with erring firms in a bid to influence or manipulate the fertilizer supply chain. The agencies stressed that cases remain under review, and no final findings have been reached.
Pending resolution, affected companies, officials, and products will be temporarily removed from the official registry of FPA-registered fertilizer handlers and products.
Authorities further flagged instances where certain companies reportedly refused inspection by FPA personnel, raising concerns over traceability, compliance, and product integrity in the distribution system.
Some of the suspended firms had previously participated in government fertilizer procurement and subsidy programs designed to support Filipino farmers. The DA warned that questionable inputs could impact crop productivity while also putting at risk public funds allocated for agricultural assistance.
The agency added that penalties may include suspension or revocation of licenses, disqualification from government transactions, and possible criminal charges, depending on the outcome of ongoing investigations.
The crackdown comes as farmers continue to grapple with rising production costs and pressure to maintain yields amid climate variability and supply chain constraints.
