Kristel Herrera’s feat follows ‘kabayan’ Matty Juniosa’s golden buzzer.

Filipino singer Kristel Herrera earned a standing ovation and four yeses for her audition on Britain’s Got Talent.

In the episode that aired April 4 (early April 5 Philippine time), Kristel—who now lives in Halifax, West Yorkshire, with her husband—said her “biggest dream” is to perform in front of King Charles. She then delivered a powerful rendition of Whitney Houston’s “Run to You.”

The judges were all praises for her.

“Honestly, that was unbelievable,” KSI said. “I wanna see more. I wanna see more.”

“This is your year,” Alesha Dixon said. “That was sensational. Absolutely outstanding. Like, your technique was 10 out of 10.”

“I’m blown away by that entire performance,” Amanda Holden said. “What I find extraordinary is how sort of little and shrunk you are. And when you sang, you turned into a complete diva, baby.”

“I don’t think you realize just how incredible you are,” said Stacey Solomon, who’s standing in for head judge Simon Cowell. “The way you go from head voice to chest voice is so unbelievable. I really hope you get more confidence because you’re unbelievable.”

“That was epic!” hosts Ant and Dec also said earlier.

With four yeses, Kristel advances to the next round, where contestants compete for a spot in the live semifinals.

From Little Big Star to the West End

Kristel was a batchmate of Jake Zyrus in Little Big Star and later joined competitions like Tawag ng Tanghalan. She eventually moved to the United Kingdom, building a career in theater with roles in “The Cromer Pier Show,” “Robin Hood,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin,” and the upcoming “The Wizard of Oz.”

Recently, another Filipino singer, Matty Juniosa, got a golden buzzer—the first Filipino singer in BGT to do so. He clinched the feat with his rendition of Prince’s “Purple Rain,” sending him straight to the semis.

Only nine golden buzzers are awarded per season, with seven already handed out. In the same episode, Stacey gave her golden buzzer to Braunstone Community Primary, a group of young dancers.
