The former beauty queen gets real about leadership, criticism, and keeping calm under pageant pressure.
As tensions and leadership issues continue to rock the 74th Miss Universe Organization (MUO) in Bangkok, Thailand, the Philippines remains one of the pageant’s most trusted allies, thanks to the steady leadership of Miss Universe Philippines (MUPh) national director Ariella Arida.
While controversies swirl around other national franchises, Ariella assures that the Philippines continues to maintain a solid and respectful relationship with MUO’s top executives.
“Okay naman and very good,” she said confidently, referring to their ongoing connection with the organization.
“Actually, not everybody knows that I personally met some of the leaders during a dinner in Bangkok, Thailand. I was introduced to them in both a casual and business setting,” Ariella shared.
According to her, the relationship was built not just through formal meetings but also through genuine rapport. “I guess that’s how it started. It’s good to have a foundation where, even on- and off-camera, you share a very good relationship—even with the staff. With that kind of connection, we built something not everyone could have,” she added.
Despite the strong partnership, Ariella admitted that the local organization isn’t immune to criticism, especially from passionate Filipino pageant fans who closely follow every move of MUPh.
“Of course, MUPh is an image and a brand, and as much as possible, you’d want to hear only good things about it. But at the same time, I’m very open-minded because you can’t avoid comments, and you really can’t please everyone,” she said.
Still, the former Miss Universe 2013 Top 5 finalist believes that constructive criticism is key to growth.
“At the end of the day, whether the comments are good or bad, you know deep down if there’s something you need to fix or improve on, and you have to stay open to that,” she concluded.
Through her calm leadership and genuine connections, Ariella Arida proves that Miss Universe Philippines continues to embody not just beauty and confidence, but also professionalism, grace, and respect on the global stage.
The 74th Miss Universe coronation night is set for November 21, with Ahtisa Manalo representing the Philippines as she aims to bring home the country’s fifth Miss Universe crown.
