Burned laptop post draws hope from strangers

“Check the motherboard first,” says a concerned netizen.

A Facebook post showing a severely burned laptop has struck a chord online—not just because of the heartbreaking accident, but because of the unexpected wave of hopeful advice from strangers who refused to write it off as a total loss.

The post, shared by Facebook user Faith JC in the “Laptop Repair / Parts, Defective Laptop” group, explained that a power outage prompted the family to light a candle. According to the post, the candle was placed beside the laptop and accidentally left burning overnight. By morning, they discovered that the right side of the device had been badly burned.

“Sayang po kasi at mahal po ang bili sa laptop na ito,” Faith wrote, asking if there was still any way to recover or repair it.

The photos appeared to show extensive fire damage. Parts of the casing had melted, the screen hinge was charred, and the right edge of the laptop looked almost completely destroyed—enough to make many believe it was beyond saving.

But amid the grim images, one of the top comments offered a sliver of hope instead of despair.

“Unscrew mo yung likod, para mabaklas mo yung motherboard baka buo pa or yung mga pwede pa marecover. If okay pa motherboard, try mo bumili ng second hand na same model para sa kaha at screen,” one commenter advised.

The same commenter also reminded others to keep candles isolated from flammable objects during brownouts to prevent similar accidents.

Faith responded with cautious optimism.

“Thank you po, I’ll try to ask po sa mga repair shop if that’s possible po. I pray na pwede pa.”

Other users echoed the advice, encouraging the owner not to give up before having the laptop checked by an authorized technician.

“Pa check mo po sa technician baka pwede pang ma-recover. Authorized tech shop sana,” another commenter wrote.

Some pointed out that even if the laptop itself could no longer be repaired, valuable components might still survive.

“RAM and SSD maisasalba diyan at yun ang importante,” one user said, referring to the storage drive that may still contain important files and memories.

Another commenter believed the visible destruction might not tell the whole story.

“Parang housing and LCD damage pa lang.”

Not every reaction was serious. Some joked about making the sibling replace the laptop or even “buying a new sibling,” while others reminded the family to be grateful that the fire did not spread to the rest of the house.

Still, the strongest takeaway from the thread wasn’t the damage itself—it was the reminder that even in situations that appear impossible, people often find reasons to hope.
