Cup of Joe’s historic run anchors a Wrapped year filled with chart-toppers, genre-benders, and new podcast favorites.
“Dinadalaw mo ‘ko bawat gabi” might as well be the running sentiment of hundreds of thousands of Filipino Spotify users. Cup of Joe is Spotify’s top local act of 2025, while its mammoth hit “Multo” has been crowned the platform’s top local song of the year.
The Baguio-based group—composed of Gian Bernardino and Raphaell Ridao (vocals) Gabriel Fernandez (lead guitars), CJ Fernandez (rhythm guitars), and Xen Gareza (keyboards)—swept Spotify’s rankings, according to its much-anticipated “Wrapped” campaign launched on the evening of Dec. 3.
Cup of Joe was hailed as the platform’s top group, top local artist, and top local group. It also ranked second among the Philippines’ most-streamed global artists—and was the only Filipino act to appear in the list—coming in just behind American pop star Taylor Swift.
The band had placed third in last year’s top local groups ranking, while none of its songs made the cut at the time.
Incredibly overwhelming
“It’s incredibly overwhelming to see our songs become part of people’s playlists and their big moments this year,” Cup of Joe said in a statement. “It reminds us that we’ve somehow become part of their story. Knowing that someone found comfort or connection in our music is one of the best feelings. We’re excited to grow, experiment, and share more pieces of ourselves with our listeners.”
To celebrate the achievement, Cup of Joe held a free performance in Bonifacio Global City on Dec. 4.
Formed in 2018 and signed with Viva Records the following year, Cup of Joe has built a catalog of hits, including “Tingin” (with Janine Teñoso), “Estranghero,” “Misteryoso,” and the wildly popular “Multo.”
Originally released as a single in September 2024 and was part of the band’s debut 2025 studio album, “Silakbo,” “Multo” is a poignant meditation on grief and emotional haunting, earning the moniker “relapse anthem.”
Viewed from a romantic lens
It was initially viewed from a romantic lens but has since been embraced as a song of loss and longing across family, careers, and other crossroads in life. Its melodic arrangements, relatable lyricism, and heartfelt delivery have helped cement it as an instant classic among Joewahs (Cup of Joe fans) and general listeners alike.
“Multo” became the first song by a Filipino act to enter the Billboard Global 200, peaking at No. 80. It also topped several national charts, including the Billboard Philippines Hot 100, where it was No. 1 for a record 27 consecutive weeks. It also entered charts abroad, including in the United Arab Emirates and the Netherlands.
The track went on to sweep several accolades, including song of the year at the inaugural Filipino Music Awards 2025.
Aside from being the top local song, “Multo” is also the top song in “Tatak Pinoy,” the platform’s dynamic OPM playlist.
