Diesel jumps more than ₱5/L on September 8

Gasoline and kerosene also post steep increases as last week’s rollback is reversed.

The relief at the pump is proving short-lived, with diesel prices set to jump by ₱5.18 per liter on Tuesday, September 8, in another sharp reversal for motorists.

Based on the Department of Energy’s latest computation, gasoline prices are also expected to rise by ₱4.69 per liter, while kerosene will increase by ₱5.58 per liter.

The adjustments will take effect at 6 AM on September 8.

As of press time, oil companies have yet to release their respective advisories on the upcoming price changes. While actual adjustments could still vary by company and fuel product, oil firms have generally followed or stayed close to DOE-computed figures in previous price adjustments.

Based on the current average pump prices following last week’s rollback, the ₱5.18 increase would bring diesel prices to about ₱94.42 per liter from ₱89.24, while the ₱4.69 gasoline hike would push the average to around ₱84.77 per liter from ₱80.08.

The latest increase comes just a week after diesel and kerosene prices rolled back by nearly ₱4 per liter, wiping out much of that relief in a single round of sharp increases.
