Anonymous claims of P23M vs P2.3M project fuel intrigue, hint at deeper rift in local film industry.

Erik Matti’s cryptic post hints at alleged corruption, bloated film budgets

Award-winning director Erik Matti has stirred curiosity and speculation online after sharing a cryptic Facebook post that appears to point to a brewing controversy in the local film industry involving allegations of corruption, inflated production costs, and a bitter falling-out between industry players.

“What is this? Who is this? What is happening?” Matti wrote in a Facebook post on Monday.

“Parang mas juicy pa ito kay Jinggoy. Howlywood!”

The filmmaker accompanied his post with a screenshot of a lengthy anonymous message directed at an unidentified individual.

The statement contains explosive allegations, including claims that a film project allegedly cost P23 million despite supposedly having the same requirements as another project that only cost around P2.3 million.

The anonymous author dismissed attempts to attribute discrepancies to a reported “P20,000 typo,” arguing that the issue went far beyond a simple accounting mistake.

“We sensed corruption at hindi kami pumayag na kumubra ka ng napakalaking kupit. Kaya ka tinanggal,” the message read.

The writer also accused the unnamed individual of profiting excessively from film development projects and creating a “victim narrative” after allegedly being removed from a production.

Among the more pointed claims were accusations that the person mistreated colleagues, misrepresented the circumstances surrounding their departure, and falsely claimed to have been fired on Christmas Day.

The post further alleged that evidence exists to support the accusations, though no documents or proof were publicly presented in the screenshot.

Matti did not identify the people involved, nor did he provide any context regarding the project or production being referenced.

His decision to share the message nevertheless ignited discussion among filmmakers, industry observers, and movie fans, many of whom immediately began speculating about who the anonymous accusations were directed at.

As of writing, Matti has not posted any clarification or follow-up explanation.

With no names mentioned and no official statements from the parties involved, the controversy remains shrouded in mystery.

For now, the cryptic post has become one of the most talked-about industry intrigues on Philippine social media, leaving many wondering whether a larger scandal in the local film community is about to unfold.
