Filipino pride takes center stage as Lea Salonga, H.E.R., and Liza Soberano headline the animated film ‘Forgotten Island,’ inspired by Philippine mythology and set for release in 2026.
Filipino excellence continues to shine on the global stage as DreamWorks Animation assembles a powerhouse cast led by Tony Award winner Lea Salonga, Grammy-winning H.E.R., and actress Liza Soberano for its upcoming animated adventure, “Forgotten Island.”
The film, set for theatrical release on September 25, 2026, under Universal Pictures, marks another major collaboration between directors Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, following their success with “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.”
“Forgotten Island” draws inspiration from Philippine mythology, promising a heartwarming and visually stunning tale rooted in friendship, memory, and rediscovery.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the star-studded voice cast also includes Dave Franco, Manny Jacinto, and Jenny Slate.
Magical plot and twists
The story follows lifelong best friends Jo (voiced by H.E.R.) and Raissa (Soberano), who become stranded on the mystical island of Nakali—a place filled with enchantment and forgotten legends. As they struggle to find their way home, the two must confront a heartbreaking choice that could cost them their cherished memories together.
Both Salonga and Soberano confirmed their participation through social media, expressing excitement about the project. Soberano, who recently starred in “Lisa Frankenstein,” continues to make waves in Hollywood, while Salonga, renowned for her iconic roles in Disney classics like “Aladdin” and “Mulan,” recently made history as the first Filipino artist to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
“Forgotten Island” serves as a cultural milestone for Filipino representation in mainstream animation, blending world-class talent with stories inspired by the country’s rich folklore. With its mix of adventure, emotion, and heritage, the film is poised to become one of DreamWorks’ most anticipated releases in 2026.
