The esplanade has become one of Iloilo City’s most recognizable public spaces.
A stretch of the Iloilo River Esplanade has transformed into a sea of yellow after golden shower trees along Esplanade 5 burst into full bloom, drawing attention online and showcasing one of the city’s most picturesque seasonal displays.
In a social media post, Tatak Ilonggo highlighted the stunning sight along the left bank of the Iloilo River between Jalandoni Bridge and Forbes Bridge, where rows of golden shower trees are currently covered in vibrant yellow blossoms.
The flowering trees have turned Esplanade 5 into what the page described as a “golden paradise,” creating a striking backdrop for joggers, cyclists, photographers, and visitors who frequent the riverside attraction.
Known scientifically as Cassia fistula, the golden shower tree is prized for its cascading clusters of bright yellow flowers that typically bloom during the dry season. When several trees flower simultaneously, they create a dramatic canopy of gold that can transform entire streets and parks.
The post credited the Iloilo City Government’s Greening and Beautification Division for its continuing efforts to maintain and nurture the city’s green spaces, helping preserve the lush character of the award-winning Iloilo River Esplanade.
The esplanade has become one of Iloilo City’s most recognizable public spaces, stretching several kilometers along the river and serving as a model for urban waterfront development in the Philippines. Beyond providing recreational areas for residents, the riverwalk has also become a popular destination for tourists seeking scenic views and open spaces.
Tatak Ilonggo also issued a disclaimer that the photos accompanying the post were not generated using artificial intelligence. According to the page, only minor adjustments in color enhancement and brightness were applied to better highlight the natural beauty of the blossoms while maintaining their original appearance.
As images of the blooming trees circulate online, many Ilonggos are taking the opportunity to visit Esplanade 5 and witness the seasonal spectacle firsthand before the blossoms eventually fade with the changing season.
