Jodi Sta. Maria’s ‘Edjop’ journey culminates after five years of physically demanding work

Jodi Sta. Maria reflects on her physically demanding five-year journey playing Joyette Jopson in “Edjop.”

Jodi Sta. Maria is opening up about the preparation and challenges behind her role in the biopic “Edjop,” sharing a glimpse of the physical training she underwent for the much-anticipated film.

In an Instagram reel, the actress showcased part of her fitness routine as she reflected on her five-year journey with the project.

“5 years in the making. Being part of this movie is both humbling and meaningful for me,” she captioned the post.

For Jodi, however, “Edjop” is more than just an ordinary biopic. The film tells the story of Edgar Jopson, a Filipino activist who was killed in 1982 during the height of Martial Law.

“This is a story about a man who believed in something bigger than himself… who he was, what he stood for and the sacrifices he made for what he believed was right,” Jodi shared.

The actress also expressed her gratitude for being part of the project and working alongside its ensemble cast, including Elijah Canlas, Frankie Pangilinan, Nour Hooshmand, Menchu Yulo, and Gab Pangilinan.

“Masaya ako sa opportunity na mapabilang sa pelikulang EDJOP at makasama ang napakahusay na cast,” she said.

Jodi further echoed director Katski Flores’ description of the film, emphasizing its significance and the story it hopes to preserve.

“Hindi lang ito isang pelikula… ito ay isang liham ng pag-ibig sa mga gustong itong basahin. It is a story that deserves to be remembered. I hope you get to watch it and know EDJOP and what he stood for,” she added.

In “Edjop,” Jodi portrays Joyette Jopson, the daughter of Edgar Jopson. The film also stars #CedricJuan and other members of its ensemble cast.

“Edjop” is now showing in cinemas nationwide.
