
The peso weakened past the ₱62.60 mark to hit a fresh record low against the dollar, while local equities rebounded to stay above the 6,100 level.
Financial markets showed mixed movement on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, as the Philippine peso plunged to a new record low while the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) managed a modest recovery.
The PSEi advanced 22.31 points, or 0.37%, to close at 6,105.99, rebounding from the previous trading session’s slight decline.
The benchmark index held above the 6,000 threshold for the fourth consecutive session, gaining back momentum to settle back above the 6,100 mark.
Peso sinks to new record low—yet again
Meanwhile, the Philippine peso weakened by nearly 4 centavos to close at ₱62.625 against the US dollar, setting a new record low and surpassing the previous closing record of ₱62.586 set in the prior session.
The local currency touched an intraday low of ₱62.675, weakening by 2.5 centavos compared to the previous session’s intraday trough of ₱62.65, as pressure kept it held past the ₱62 mark.
Tuesday’s session highlighted contrasting directions across Philippine financial markets.
While local shares rebounded on modest gains, the peso extended its slide to post another historic low against the greenback.
