New company will develop and operate rooftop and ground-mounted solar facilities for industrial businesses, targeting lower energy costs and wider renewable energy adoption.

MSpectrum, the solar arm of Meralco, is teaming up with two Japanese firms to bring more rooftop and ground-mounted solar projects to factories and industrial facilities across the Philippines.

The partnership with Tokyo Century Corporation and JFE Engineering Corporation comes through a new joint venture called MSpectrum Taiyo, with MSpectrum holding a 60% stake.

For businesses struggling with high power costs, the move could offer another path toward reducing electricity expenses while securing a more stable energy supply. The venture will initially focus on Japanese companies operating in the Philippines, many of which have been under growing pressure to cut emissions and meet sustainability targets without driving up operating costs.

The three companies are not exactly starting from scratch. Their relationship dates back to 2018 and has already produced several solar projects under a Japanese government-backed program.

The Philippines continues to face rising electricity demand as the economy expands, making renewable energy an increasingly attractive option for manufacturers and industrial operators looking to keep costs under control. With Japanese financing, engineering expertise, and Meralco’s local reach now under one roof, the partners are betting that more companies will make the jump to solar in the years ahead.
