Colombian beauty queen praises Filipino culture, joins coronation week activities.
Reigning Miss International Catalina Duque of Colombia is in the Philippines to witness the crowning of the Filipina who will represent the country at the next Miss International pageant.
The highly anticipated Binibining Pilipinas 2026 coronation night will take place this Saturday.
Duque is making the most of her first visit to the Philippines. Beyond her pageant duties, she has immersed herself in the country’s culture, hospitality, and cuisine, describing the experience as unforgettable.
“This is my first time, actually. It’s been very exciting. I love the people, I love the culture, I love the climate. Everything’s just been amazing,” she said.
Aside from her official engagements, Duque spent time with Miss International Philippines 2024 Myrna Esguerra and Binibining Pilipinas International 2026 Katrina Johnson, saying she enjoyed getting to know the Filipina queens on a more personal level.
One highlight of her visit was a food tour in Pampanga with Johnson, where they sampled local favorites such as sisig and turon.
“I’m eating everything. I tell them, ‘Take me everywhere.’ I’m trying everything, and I’m having so much fun,” she said.
Duque also visited SOS Children’s Village and later experienced a cultural showcase at Barbara’s Heritage Restaurant, where she watched the traditional tinikling dance.
Although she did not join the performers, she praised the dance and Filipino culture.
“I was so impressed. I’ve never seen anything like that in my entire life. Your culture is beautiful, beautiful, beautiful,” she said.
During her stay, Duque also paid a courtesy visit to Binibining Pilipinas chair Stella Marquez Araneta. The two shared a conversation in Spanish, with Duque describing the pageant matriarch as warm and welcoming.
Asked if she could someday fall in love with a Filipino, Duque laughed and said she is already in a relationship with her Colombian boyfriend.
“I love that question, but sorry, Filipinos, I’m already taken,” she said.
Still, Duque said the Philippines has already won her over.
“I’m in love with the Filipinos already, so don’t worry, you have a piece of my heart.”
