The actress’ sharp past remarks about fan entitlement and online hate go viral once again.
“Meron talagang mga tao na they’re such a big fan of yours, but at the same time, when you make a mistake, they’re like the first ones to hate on you.”
A past warning from Nadine Lustre about Twitter, now called X, has resurfaced online as toxic fandom culture once again comes under scrutiny across social media platforms.
The actress’ remarks about fans who can quickly turn against the very artists they idolize are being revisited amid renewed discussions about obsessive supporters, online pile-ons, and the growing tendency to treat celebrities as if fans are entitled to control their choices.
The resurfaced statement has resonated with netizens who argue that admiration should not erase an artist’s humanity.
“Not realizing na tao pa rin mga idols na ‘yan. ‘Di sila perfect and so are you.”
Another fan emphasized that supporting an artist should come with boundaries, particularly when it comes to their personal lives and decisions.
“If you’re really a fan, know your boundaries & respect their personal lives & choices. They can make mistakes and they can learn from them, too.”
Nadine has previously spoken about the darker side of Twitter, recalling how the platform could feel like a “warzone” and how criticism, including threats, affected her.
Years later, the same conversation continues to follow fandoms beyond X, spilling into Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, Reddit, and other online communities.
The platforms may have changed, but the problem remains familiar: When does being a fan stop being admiration and start becoming entitlement?
One netizen wrote, “Nadine’s resurfaced words serve as a reminder that idols are not characters written for their audience. They are people allowed to make mistakes, grow, set boundaries, and make choices their supporters may not always understand.”
And as another netizen aptly put it, “Hintayin n’yo pa ba na umalis ang mga favorite artist n’yo dito sa katoxican n’yo? Isip-isip mga baks!:
