“you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love” was released worldwide on June 12 — coinciding with the Philippine Independence Day.

Olivia Rodrigo fans are divided over the quality of signatures on copies of her latest album “you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love.”

Several fans took to social media to express disappointment, saying the autographs looked rushed and unrecognizable—compared to her usual signature seen in her 2021 debut album, “SOUR.”

While some copies featured detailed writing, others only had “OR” initials—leaving some buyers unsatisfied.

“They are literally extremely sloppy and just a circle and a scribble,” one Reddit user said.

Some fans on X even considered asking for refunds, with one calling the release “a cash grab.”

This is not the first time the Filipino American pop star faced backlash over shortened signatures. Similar feedback surfaced during the release of her sophomore album, “GUTS,” in 2023.

Thousands to sign

Amid the backlash, some fans defended Rodrigo, pointing out the volume of items she had to sign.

“The fact that they all look different means she actually signed them,” a user said.

Others noted that it was still better than autopen signatures, in which artists supposedly use an automated writing machine for mass signing.

“She probably did the best she could but honestly, signing thousands of photos is a lot of work,” a user said.

A representative from the Olivia Rodrigo Official Store also confirmed to a fan that all copies were hand-signed.

Quality control

Signed albums are often treated as collector’s items, raising questions about quality control.

Some fans argued that distributors should have ensured consistency, while others suggested limiting supply to avoid rushed signatures.

Still, others are simply glad to own something that has a personal connection to their idol.

“My interpretation of wanting a signed copy of something,” an X user said, “was always the fact that this was held and physically signed by your favorite artist and is unique. Not because of how the signature looks.”

“you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love” was released worldwide on June 12—with many Filipinos expressing amusement as it coincided with the Philippine Independence Day.
