Paolo Ballesteros gives seal of approval to new Trisha leads.
Before “Die Beautiful” hits the musical theater stage, Paolo Ballesteros—the original Trisha Echevarria—has already given the production’s new leads his blessing.
Ballesteros, who earned international acclaim for the 2016 MMFF film, shared his excitement with radar Entertainment after The IdeaFirst Live! announced that drag superstars Maxie Andreison and Viñas Deluxe will alternate in the iconic role.
“Perfect naman sila, in all fairness,” Paolo said.
Both leads bring strong theatrical credentials to the show.
Maxie, fresh from her reign as “Drag Race Philippines” Season 3 grand winner, possesses the rare combination of powerhouse vocals and acting chops needed for a live musical—skills she first showcased professionally in 2013’s “Maxie The Musicale: Ang Pagdadalaga Ni Maximo Oliveros.”
Viñas Deluxe, a standout from “Drag Race PH” Season 1, is equally equipped. She honed her craft in college theater at FEU and later starred in DLSU’s Harlequin Theater Guild production of “Halimaw” in 2023.
Seeing the role go to two seasoned performers makes Paolo incredibly proud.
“Proud na proud naman ako sa kanilang dalawa, dahil alam ko na matataba din ang utak nila,” he said, laughing. “Kayang-kaya nilang isa-buhay at isa-patay si Trisha.”
“Die Beautiful The Musical,” directed by Tuxqs Rutaquio with a script by Jun Robles Lana, is set to premiere in 2027.
