The DavaoBus Driving Academy facility represents a cornerstone of the ₱80-billion Davao Public Transport Modernization Project (DPTMP). The academy is designed to move beyond traditional driving lessons, incorporating advanced simulation-based training to prepare drivers for the city's 672-kilometer centralized bus network.
New training hub aims to improve public transport safety.
The country’s first dedicated bus driving school under a government-led project is set to open in Davao City, with the goal of improving safety and reliability in public transport.
The DavaoBus Driving Academy, now under construction in the Calinan District, will serve as the main training hub for drivers of the upcoming DavaoBus System. The facility will offer simulation-based training, hands-on driving instruction, and safety-focused programs as the project prepares for pilot operations in 2027.
Poor driver training and human error have often been cited as key causes of transport-related incidents, prompting calls for reforms in traffic systems.
The blueprint for safety
The academy is part of the ₱80-billion Davao Public Transport Modernization Project, which aims to overhaul the city’s transport system into a more organized and efficient bus network.
Once implemented, the system will replace fragmented routes with a centralized bus network along a 672-kilometer stretch, similar to the EDSA Busway, and will be operated by certified drivers trained through the academy.
The DavaoBus Driving Academy is officially rising in Calinan to train the first batch of certified drivers for the DPTMP. Discover how this ₱80-billion overhaul is turning Davao’s transport into a world-class network by 2027.
