The legendary singer shows his eyes without dark sunglasses in a viral photo with Christine and Julius Babao.
Singer and actor Randy Santiago gave fans a rare glimpse of his eyes without his trademark dark shades in a photo shared by television host Christine Babao after director Bobot Mortiz’s “Goin Standard The Repeat” concert.
In the photo, Santiago wears clear eyeglasses with black frames, revealing his eyes, which he has consciously kept out of public view for much of his career.
Babao shared the snap with a playful caption referencing Santiago’s hit song “Babaero.”
“BABABAERO… BABABAERO DAW AKO OH!” she wrote. “teka teka, lyrics lang yan ng eikat na kanta ng da wan en onli Randy Santiago ha! Good Boy si @/randysantiago, guys! Kasing good boy ni Pappu Julius Babao, syempre!”
Santiago’s signature shades have been part of his public image since 1983, when he began wearing them while performing with his band, Cicada.
In a 2024 interview, Santiago revealed that he developed a cyst in his left eye when he was in Grade 2. He underwent surgery, but the cyst returned, requiring another operation.
He began wearing lighter shades in high school before adopting darker ones as part of his stage look.
Santiago recalled that he and his bandmates initially considered an eye patch to conceal his eye. However, he found it difficult to locate his microphone while performing, prompting him to switch to sunglasses.
Over the years, the shades became his most recognizable trademark, fueling public curiosity about what he looks like without them.
In an April 2024 interview with The Philippine Star, Santiago acknowledged that his signature look could limit his acting opportunities, although he made an exception for the 2017 fantasy series “La Luna Sangre,” where he showed his right eye at the request of director Cathy Garcia-Sampana.
Santiago’s latest photo with the Babao couple offers another look at the man behind the iconic shades, a defining feature of his showbiz identity for more than four decades.
