From praising Daniel Padilla’s natural grit to expressing support for Kylie amid personal issues, Robin Padilla tackles legacy and family with honesty.

Robin Padilla may be gearing up for a major on-screen comeback with producer Viva Communications Inc., complete with a revived “Bad Boy” film franchise. But during his contract signing in Pasig City, he found himself making waves for something beyond his career plans.

Two moments stole the spotlight: his composed response to the Kylie Padilla–Aljur Abrenica–AJ Raval situation and his confident declaration that the next rightful “Bad Boy” should be his nephew, Daniel Padilla.

When asked who he believes should inherit the iconic action-star identity, Robin didn’t hesitate to name Daniel. “Kay Daniel ko siyempre gusto ipamana,” he said, recalling how he had already seen the younger Padilla’s potential years ago. “Noong panahon sinasabi ko, in love pa siya eh. Pag-ibig pa and priority. Gumawa na siya ng ‘Incognito,’ so may chance na ngayon.”

Robin emphasized that Daniel carries an unteachable quality, an aura that can’t simply be performed on cue. “Natural ang angas sa kanya. ‘Pag inutos lang kasi ng direktor, medyo may kalungkutan ‘yon,” he explained.

He then looked back on how the legendary title was passed down through generations—from Jose Padilla Jr. to Joseph Estrada to Ace Vergel—before it eventually landed on him. He even recounted the moment it was unofficially bestowed.

Shifting to personal matters

“Hindi ko makakalimutan ‘yon. Hindi ako ang ‘Bad Boy’ talaga. Parang nagka problema sila ni Boss Vic, kaya ako ang kapalit. Pagkarating ko ng Viva, ‘pag bukas pa lang ng gate, nandoon si Alas (Ace Vergel’s nickname), nakatayo at inaabangan ako. Hinarangan ako talaga. Sabi, ‘Ikaw ba si Robin Padilla? Pinsan mo ba si Da Boy (the late actor Rudy Fernandez)? Buti na lang pinsan mo siya. Sige, ikaw na ang ‘Bad Boy,’” he recalled with a laugh.

For him, the tradition should be honored. “Gusto ko ‘pag dumating ang panahon, kung sino man ang maging ‘Bad Boy,’ may eksena na ipapasa ko. Ganon ‘yon, diba?”

The conversation eventually shifted to personal matters when Robin was asked about reports that Aljur Abrenica now has three children with AJ Raval, a development connected to his daughter Kylie’s past.

No drama

Remaining composed, he answered without drama. “Wala ako alam sa ganyan. Pero hindi na ako nabibigla sa ganyan. Hindi na ‘yan kabigla-bigla sa panahon ngayon.”

Robin made it clear that he sees no reason to react emotionally, stressing that the situation between Kylie and Aljur has remained civil.

“Ano ba ang dapat kong ireact? Dapat si Kylie. Wala naman ako masasabi. Maayos sila. Hindi sila nag-aaway. Alam ko lumalabas sila na pamilya,” he revealed.

Despite the complicated narrative, he wished Aljur well. “Good luck. Magsipag ka, lalo dahil marami ka nang anak. Iba na… Wala naman ako masasabi kung hindi, ‘Good luck sa lahat.’”

Robin added that Kylie is more than capable of navigating her own life. “Matanda na kasi si Kylie, lumaking independent. Mabuting ina, masipag. Hindi ko na siya inaalala sa mga ganyang usapin. Mahal na mahal kita, anak.”

Robin’s remarks during the event depicted a person who has embraced both his past and present. As he prepares for a new phase in his career, he remains a father who values maturity over turmoil and an action icon determined to keep a storied legacy alive.

By naming Daniel as the next “Bad Boy,” he signals not just succession but evolution. The title, once built on rebellion and swagger, may now be finding its future in someone who carries those qualities with a modern edge.
