“Asia’s Il Divo” visionary George Sison-Tagle dies at 50, leaves lasting legacy in music and arts.
George Sison-Tagle, founder and longtime tenor of the classical-pop group The Angelos, has died. He was 50.
His family announced his passing in a social media obituary, saying he died on July 4, 2026.
“With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Sison-Tagle. He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him,” the statement read.
Widely recognized as the visionary behind The Angelos, Sison-Tagle founded the all-male classical-pop ensemble in 2007. The group earned the moniker “Asia’s answer to Il Divo” for blending operatic vocals with contemporary pop music, introducing Filipino audiences to a crossover genre that found success both locally and abroad.
Under his leadership, The Angelos became one of the country’s most decorated crossover vocal groups, winning the Aliw Award for Best Crossover Group in 2008, 2014, and 2015 before being inducted into the Aliw Awards Hall of Fame in 2016.
Beyond the Philippine stage, Sison-Tagle led the group in performances across North America and Asia, including appearances at the 77th birthday celebration of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, concerts with singer Lani Misalucha in Las Vegas, and cultural showcases in Macau and Canada.
Outside music, Sison-Tagle was also an accomplished visual artist, following the footsteps of his father, master painter E.R. Tagle. His vibrant works extended beyond canvas to hand-painted luxury bags, clothing, and traditional Filipino fans. He also mounted fundraising art exhibitions that supported feeding programs for underserved communities.
His commitment to service likewise extended to civic leadership. He served as Charter President of the Rotary Club of Archangel Premier and later became president of the prestigious Rotary Club of Manila. He also co-owned a music and art academy and established The Angelos Music Lounge in Las Piñas, where he mentored aspiring singers and artists.
In its tribute, the family remembered him as “the life of the party, a gifted singer, a passionate painter, and the founder of The Angelos.”
Wake and viewing details have yet to be announced.
