After a four-year hiatus, the award-winning actress returns to the big screen in a Jeffrey Jeturian masterpiece that is becoming the “must-watch” drama of MMFF 2025.
The wait is finally over for fans of the “hugot” queen. Angelica Panganiban is drawing immense praise as she officially returns to the big screen in the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2025 entry, UnMarry.
Marking another notable turn in her career, the actress headlines the film with a performance that many viewers are calling both refreshing and deeply felt, proof that the right material can still spark excitement even for a seasoned star.
A story worth breaking the hiatus
“UnMarry” features an ensemble cast that includes Zanjoe Marudo, Tom Rodriguez, Solenn Heussaff, and Eugene Domingo, under the direction of acclaimed filmmaker Jeffrey Jeturian.
The film’s positive reviews have reignited conversations about Angelica’s selective approach to projects, a mindset she has openly shared in past interviews.
Reflecting on the offers she received prior to accepting “UnMarry,” Angelica candidly explained why she chose to wait for a story that truly resonated with her.
Finding the “lukso ng dugo” in ‘UnMarry’
“Though may mga binibigay naman and no offense sa mga nag-aaya sa akin na, ‘Tara na! Game! ‘Eto na ang kuwento,’ parang wala talaga siyang lukso ng dugo, parang hindi nakaka-comeback ‘yong dating nila,” she said.
Angelica emphasized that at this point in her life, choosing a project is no longer about staying visible, but about finding material that genuinely excites her and feels worth stepping out of her quiet, contented life.
That moment of excitement, she revealed, came when director Jeffrey Jeturian personally reached out to her about “UnMarry.”
A Contender for the Gabi ng Parangal
With its compelling premise, strong direction, and a cast known for both range and chemistry, “UnMarry” is shaping up to be one of the MMFF’s most talked-about entries this year.
For Angelica, the film appears to be exactly the kind of project she was waiting for, one that reignites passion, challenges her craft, and resonates with audiences in a meaningful way.
