Vice Ganda recalls how the AlDub phenomenon pushed “It’s Showtime” to its limits back in 2015.
Vice Ganda recently openly acknowledged the massive impact of AlDub on “It’s Showtime,” admitting that the Alden Richards-Maine Mendoza phenomenon once affected the rival noontime program.
During a recent episode of “Miss Q&A,” a former “Eat Bulaga!” writer from the AlDub and KalyeSerye era shared how the tandem came together, explaining that Maine simply auditioned as a new host before “everything just happened.”
But it was Vice’s reaction that put the scale of AlDub’s popularity into perspective.
“Kahit anong brainstorming gawin namin, hindi namin matalo ang AlDub. Ang lakas talaga! Nag-prayer meeting na lang kami!” Vice quipped.
She went beyond the usual fandom hype, describing the tandem as something the industry could not easily replicate.
“Hindi mo siya ma-e-explain kung paano siya nangyari kasi it was a phenomenon! Parang nakatakda si Alden at Maine na gimbalin ang buong Pilipinas!” she said.
Vice also recalled how the KalyeSerye era produced segments that became difficult for competing shows to counter, including “Trabahula.”
“Korek! Ginimbal n’yo din naman kami after no’n. Ang gaganda ng segments n’yo—Trabahula… ang hirap din talaga,” she added.
The admission is notable coming from one of “It’s Showtime’s” most recognizable personalities, especially as AlDub’s 2015 peak remains one of Philippine television’s most extraordinary moments.
The tandem’s “#AlDubEBTamangPanahon” hashtag generated more than 40 million tweets in 24 hours, while their “Tamang Panahon” special posted record-breaking television ratings.
Years later, Vice’s recollection offers a rare glimpse from the other side of the noontime war, AlDub was not simply popular with audiences, but was strong enough to make the competition take notice.
