WilBea tandem brings deep love, local flavor, and emotional intensity to Viva’s Pee Mak adaptation.
For Bea Binene and Wilbert Ross, being recognized as one of the phenomenal love teams of the new generation is something they choose to receive with gratitude rather than pressure.
The tandem opened up about their growing partnership as they prepare to introduce their take on the upcoming Filipino adaptation of the hit Thai comedy horror film “Pee Mak.”
During the film’s media conference on Wednesday, the WilBea tandem shared how they incorporated Filipino touches into the story while staying true to their respective characters.
For Wilbert, portraying Mak meant highlighting the character’s deep love and emotional pain, particularly during the film’s heavier scenes.
“Based po sa material and character ni Mak, mapagmahal and grabe masaktan. Ako as an actor, wala ako pwedeng galawin na iba kasi doon nakaangkla ang story ni Mak and Pee Nak,” Wilbert shared.
He explained that he prepared extensively for the role, particularly by amplifying Mak’s longing, devotion, and emotional pain.
“So nag-prepare talaga ako and amplified ’yong pagiging mapagmahal, ’yong pag-yearn, pati sa mga heavy scenes namin. In-amplify ko ’yong mga sakit sa scene. Sana makita po nila ’yon, and ’yon po ang goal ko,” he added.
Meanwhile, Bea pointed to the Filipino elements that make their adaptation distinct, saying the film was given familiar ingredients that local audiences can connect with.
“Siguro more of kung paano magiging mas sa atin ang adaptation ng ‘Pee Mak.’ Nilagyan siya ng mga ingredients that make it more Filipino,” she said.
As the pair continues to gain attention as a new-generation phenomenal love team, Bea admitted that she does not take the label too seriously. Instead, she remains thankful for the opportunities and trust given to them.
“Hindi ko po siya dinidibdib. Nagpapasalamat po ako sa opportunity at sa tiwalang ibinibigay ng Viva for us to play and do these projects. So some people can say na they’re there, they’re doing something good. Of course, malaking bagay sa mga fans,” Bea shared.
Wilbert echoed his onscreen partner, crediting both Viva and their supporters for the reception they have received throughout their projects.
“We’re just so grateful sa chance na binigay ng Viva and sa fans, na wala naman kami dito kung hindi dahil sa suporta nila, dahil sa init ng pagtanggap nila sa lahat ng roles na ginampanan namin,” he added.
In “Pee Mak PH,” the tandem leads a Filipino cast that also includes Gian Bernardino, Vandolph Quizon, Jairus Aquino, and TJ Valderrama, who form the barkada at the center of the story.
Directed by Victor Villanueva, “Pee Mak PH” is set to premiere in cinemas on October 14.
