A young man from Bukidnon is earning widespread praise online after risking his own safety to rescue an injured Philippine eagle that was reportedly being attacked by a troop of monkeys in a forest.
According to a Facebook post by Merly Omarol Suday, the incident began when Marvin was picking passion fruit near a forested area. While there, he heard unusual noises and decided to investigate.
As he approached the source of the commotion, Marvin reportedly found more than 30 monkeys aggressively attacking what he initially thought was a wild chicken. To drive the animals away, he barked like a dog while shouting “Arf! Arf!” causing the monkeys to scatter.
Only then did he realize that the animal lying on the ground was an injured Philippine eagle.
The eagle was reportedly covered in soil and trembling. Fearing that leaving it alone to seek help might cost the bird its life, Marvin chose to stay by its side.
He carefully placed fern leaves over the eagle’s eyes to help keep it calm before covering its body with his jacket for protection while waiting for assistance.
Suday said Junissa Valdueza Docenos and her team immediately sought help, allowing rescuers to coordinate with authorities. The eagle was later turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for medical treatment and rehabilitation.
“Marvin’s quick thinking, compassion, and willingness to stay with the eagle instead of leaving it alone played a vital role in giving our national bird a chance to survive,” Suday wrote.
The story quickly spread on social media, where thousands of netizens applauded Marvin’s actions and called him a true hero.
Many commenters urged authorities and private organizations to recognize his bravery.
“Wala bang reward si Marvin for saving the Philippine eagle?” one netizen asked.
Another wrote, “True hero… saludo po. Mabuti pa mga ordinaryong tao may malasakit.”
Others suggested that Marvin be given educational assistance or financial support, with one commenter saying, “Bigyan ng reward si Marvin. Bigyan siya ng scholarship at lahat ng mga kapatid niya.”
Several users also hoped Marvin’s act of compassion would inspire more Filipinos to help protect the country’s critically endangered wildlife instead of turning a blind eye when animals are in danger.
