Actor-director says ending feels short but right, praises cast including Richard Gutierrez and Robin Padilla.

As “Blood vs Duty” heads into its final episodes, actor Gerald Anderson said he is beyond grateful to have been part of the action series, where he also took on directing duties for several episodes.

Although it was not his first time directing scenes for one of his projects, Gerald admitted that balancing both responsibilities came with its own challenges.

“Parehas mahirap. Ito kasi maraming cast, pero mayroon kasi akong ka-tag team, si Richard, so mayroon ding nagdadala ng load, hindi lang ako,” he shared. “And then we have this amazing cast. Kami rin ni Tito Jaime Fabregas, I don’t know kung mayroon ba kaming madaling eksena. May action scenes pa, so parehas mahirap and parehas fulfilling.”

One of the highlights of the series for Gerald was finally working with Richard Gutierrez, something he wished could have lasted longer.

“Bitin, sobra,” he declared. “Kahit kaming dalawa sinasabi namin na ang dami pa sana naming puwedeng gawin. Ganun talaga. We don’t want to overdo it. Ang ganda na ng show and minsan kapag sobrang haba, hindi na ma-sustain. So we’re very happy sa kuwento namin, sa intensity, at sa mga nakasama namin. Sa isang aktor, para akong nasa Disneyland to work with amazing actors every day,” he said.

Aside from directing several scenes, Gerald also expressed his admiration for veteran action star and Senator Robin Padilla, who returned to television through the series.

“Ang mga nakikita kong comments: ‘si Idol, kaya pa rin!’ Minsan, kahit kasama ako sa eksena, pinapanood ko siya. Nilagyan mo pa ng Richard Gutierrez. As a fan, napaka-surreal ng moment na iyon,” he shared.

Despite Robin’s political background, Gerald emphasized that everyone on set focused solely on delivering a quality series.

“Pag tapak mo sa set, wala na ‘yan. At the end of the day, artista siya. Binabayaran din siya para magtrabaho,” he pointed out. “Isa siyang aktor, isa siyang idol. Para sa role na Mustafa, I don’t even think na may mas babagay pa sa role bilang Muslim leader.

“At pag tapak mo sa set, labas na ang pulitika. We’re just trying to do a good project para sa audience natin,” said Gerald.

“Blood vs Duty” is now entering its final two weeks of airing across ABS-CBN’s platforms, with advanced episodes also streaming on Netflix.
