‘Water Sports’ Canadian premiere set.

Whammy Alcazaren’s “Water Sports” is heading to Canada for its latest international stop.

The short film will have its Canadian premiere at the 28th Fairy Tales Queer Arts and Film Festival in Calgary, Alberta, a platform known for showcasing bold LGBTQ+ stories from around the world.

Set in a climate-ravaged future, the film follows two young lovers training for survival, only to realize that endurance alone is not enough—holding on to love and connection may matter more.

The update was shared through the Facebook account of Cornerstone Entertainment, which manages lead actor Elijah Canlas.

Global queer vision

The festival runs from May 21 to 31, and is considered a key venue for independent and experimental queer cinema, helping bring international visibility to emerging voices.

“Water Sports” first premiered at the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival 2025. It later screened at the QCinema International Film Festival and international festivals such as AFI Fest and the Chicago International Film Festival.

The Canadian premiere marks another step in its growing global run.
