NCCC cites “realignment” to match shifting market conditions and customer demand as closures span supermarket, pharmacy and hardware units.

The Mindanao-based NCCC chain is closing down 12 stores in five locations, with signals that further downsizing could follow later in the year.

Parent company New City Commercial Corporation said on June 30 it has planned the closure of select stores under its supermarket, pharmacy and hardware chains to streamline operations.

“As part of NCCC’s ongoing realignment, we are optimizing our store portfolio to better align with changing market conditions and customer needs,” the company said in a statement.

NCCC Supermarket and HB1 Pharmacy in Lupon, Davao Oriental are the first to close on July 1. NCCC Department Store and Hardwaremaxx in Lupon will follow the day after.

The supermarket and pharmacy in Kapalong, Davao del Norte and Malvar, Palawan will have their last day of operations on July 15.

In Davao City, NCCC Supermarket Bolton, Choice Mart Catalunan Grande, and the HB1 Pharmacy branches attached to both locations will close after July 31.

Despite the closures, the company said it will continue operating its network of stores in Palawan and across Mindanao.

Some customers have expressed concern that further downsizing may still happen later in the year amid reported declines in product and service quality.
