The content creator has been directing her millions of followers to low-viewership TikTok livestreams, helping elderly online sellers gain customers and inspiring Filipinos to use social media for good.
Instead of chasing clicks, content creator Lottie Bie has been using her 1.3 million Facebook followers to give struggling online sellers, many of them senior citizens, a chance to reach more customers.
Known for her comedy skits and relatable online humor, Lottie, whose real identity remains private, recently began sharing screenshots and links to TikTok livestreams she randomly encounters, encouraging followers to support small sellers with low viewership.
One elderly woman selling hair clips, whom Lottie said earns around ₱700 a week, was the first seller she featured after she repeatedly came across her livestreams.
Since then, the posts have followed the same pattern: Lottie invites her followers to visit the accounts of elderly sellers quietly hoping someone would stop by, then thousands of strangers do exactly that.
One livestream featured an elderly man who said he would keep selling, “Hanggang mamaya pa ako, baka sakali may mag-check out kahit isa lang.”
Another showed a seller apologizing that he was already losing his voice after hours of pitching products to just a handful of viewers. Lottie simply asked her followers to drop by and “show them some love.”
One seller who had been livestreaming to just around 60 viewers suddenly received more than 100 orders. Another, who was selling bags late into the night, ended up moving more than 370 pieces after his audience grew to around 1,000 viewers.
The gesture has resonated with many Filipinos online, with netizens saying social media becomes far more meaningful when creators use their influence to help ordinary people.
“Hope that more content creators use their platform for something like this! Pinanlamangan na tayo masyado ng gobyerno. Tayo-tayo na lang din ang magtutulungan. Thank you so much, Lottie,” a netizen wrote.
