Veteran lawyer who brought real-life cases to TV leaves lasting legacy in public service and Philippine media.
Veteran lawyer and television host Jose Sison, best known for bringing real-life legal stories to Filipino audiences through the long-running program “Ipaglaban Mo!,” has passed away. He was 88 years old.
His family confirmed that Sison died on the morning of July 23.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, his son, Jopet Sison, paid tribute to his father’s remarkable life and enduring legacy.
“We are comforted that he lived a full life as a lawyer, a husband to Josie, a father to his six children, and a grandfather to his sixteen grandchildren.”
He also asked the public to remember his father in their prayers. “Please keep him in your prayers and remember him with love and fond memories.”

Beyond his distinguished legal career, Sison became a familiar face on Philippine television as the host of “Ipaglaban Mo!,” ABS-CBN’s legal drama anthology that aired from 1992 to 1999.
He returned to host the revived program, which aired on ABS-CBN and DZMM TeleRadyo from 2014 until 2020, helping explain legal issues to viewers while highlighting stories inspired by real cases.
The family announced that Sison’s wake will begin on the afternoon of July 24 at the Ascension Chapel of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Cubao.
He will be laid to rest on July 28 at Heaven’s Gate Memorial Park 1 in Antipolo City.
Sison leaves behind a lasting legacy in both the legal profession and Philippine television, as well as a family and countless viewers whose lives were touched by his dedication to public service.
