Philippine financial markets started the week on a stronger note as stocks recovered from Friday’s dip while the peso posted a sharp rebound after hitting a record low.
Philippine financial markets opened the week on Monday, July 27, 2026, with gains as both the stock market and the peso recovered from the previous trading session’s weakness.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) gained 33.89 points, or 0.54%, to close at 6,314.90, recovering from the slight decline recorded on Friday. The index remained above the 6,300 level, suggesting the market regained momentum as investors returned to buying after the previous session’s pullback.
Peso rebounds sharply
The Philippine peso strengthened, gaining nearly 18 centavos to close at ₱61.675 against the US dollar, bouncing back after sliding to a record low of ₱61.853 in the previous trading session.
The local currency reached an intraday high of ₱61.76, around 20 centavos stronger than Friday’s rate. The recovery pulled the peso farther away from the ₱62 level, although it remained within the historically weak ₱61 range.
Monday’s session reflected improved sentiment across Philippine financial markets. While local equities resumed their upward climb, the peso staged a strong recovery from its record low, offering a reprieve after recent pressure on the local currency.
