Epy Quizon says he stays out of politics following late father Dolphy’s example

“I’m open with my political stand, but I don’t post it,” he told radar Entertainment during a visit to the rehearsals of his stage play “About Us But Not About Us.”

“All conversations while having dinner, you can probably hear my political stand. But my family has always been apolitical… my father did not really side with whoever. He didn’t really campaign for anyone, so we’ve been apolitical.”

“I’m the wrong person to ask,” he joked.

Epy previously demonstrated his stance on keeping advocacy separate from electoral politics in 2021, when he turned down a ₱30-million offer to let a political candidate use “Lukso ng Dugo,” his song for MagkaisaPH, as a campaign song.

“Wala akong pera noon sa bangko. Wala akong trabaho noon. Actually, napaisip ako. Nabulag ako, mga two minutes,” Epy recalled. “I can make you another song but not this song. This song is not owned by me anymore. This song is owned by all artists who are part of it.”

MagkaisaPH, which Epy founded and organized with fellow artists, was launched as a peace advocacy focused on creating common ground and better communication. In 2021, he also said he would not run for political office, citing his father’s example.

Dolphy famously declined offers to run for senator and Manila mayor, explaining his reluctance with the line, “Madaling tumakbo, e paano kung manalo?”

While Dolphy never held public office, historical accounts also document that he endorsed candidates in past elections, including Joseph Estrada in 1998 and Fernando Poe Jr. in 2004.

For Epy, however, his father’s legacy remains rooted in knowing where he can best serve, through storytelling and advocacy rather than seeking political office.

“About Us But Not About Us,” which also stars Romnick Sarmenta, Elijah Canlas and Kobe Brown, is having its rerun from October 2 to 25 at the Power Mac Center Spotlight Blackbox Theater in Circuit Makati.
