Actress Angeli Bayani has nothing but high praise for the team behind the Cinemalaya 2026 closing film “Filipiñana,” emphasizing that a shared vision was the secret ingredient to the project’s success.
In a recent interview with radar Entertainment, the acclaimed actress opened up about the vibrant and trusting atmosphere on set, where she played Beth, describing the experience as deeply rewarding.
“It’s always a joy to work with people who are on the same page regarding a story,” Bayani shared.
While she was careful to keep tight-lipped about a specific character and plot details to avoid ruining the movie’s surprises—insisting that discovering them is part of the experience—she couldn’t hide her enthusiasm about the production. “Ang daling magtrabaho ‘pag gano’n ang mga kasama mo.”
The actress highlighted that everyone involved fully understood the ultimate message that the director, Rafael “Ram” Manuel, wanted to convey. The shared desire to execute his exact vision led to a highly collaborative environment, fueled by open discussions and deep mutual trust among the cast and crew. According to Bayani, that level of synergy is exactly what makes a production truly special.
In “Filipiñana,” Isabel (Jorrybell Agoto), a teenage Ilocana navigating life as a “tee-girl” at an ultra-exclusive country club just outside of Manila. Her daily grind is simple yet telling: setting up golf balls for wealthy, influential men to effortlessly smash across the lush fairways.
However, as she moves through the beautifully manicured estate, Isabel gets a stark, front-row look at the estate’s unspoken social hierarchy. She quietly watches the intricate dynamics of power and submission unfold between the eager-to-please workers and the ultra-rich members—a VIP roster that includes foreign expats, a high-rolling industrialist, and the club’s formidable top brass, Dr. Palanca (Teroy Guzman).
As “Filipiñana” screens for the Cinemalaya audience, Bayani hopes that viewers will take away more than just its compelling narrative. She wants the audience to feel the palpable teamwork and collective effort that built the final product on screen.
Alongside a stacked cast with Carlos Siguon-Reyna, Nour Hooshmand, Ruby Ruiz, Agot Isidro, Shamaine Buencamino, Carmen Castellanos, and Isabel Sicat, “Filipiñana” is set to close Cinemalaya 2026 on August 18, with a cinema release set for August 26.
