Backlash intensifies as pageant figure Brandon Espiritu admits mistake, faces split reactions, and announces digital detox to rebuild image.

Brandon Espiritu has publicly acknowledged his mistake following the backlash surrounding his controversial remarks about Filipinos and “halfies.”

In a recent appearance during a “man-on-the-street” interview with content creator Eren Wayne Jr. in Osaka, Japan, Espiritu addressed the criticism he received after a viral clip showed him claiming that full Filipinos are “much less” than people of mixed heritage.

Reflecting on the incident, the Filipino-American pageant titleholder admitted that his statement was inappropriate.

“It was an arrogant comment. I should not have dropped that. I do respect my country, my people,” he said.

Espiritu added that he now understands why many people were offended by his remarks and stressed that he recognizes where he went wrong.

“I definitely see where I went wrong,” he said.

The pageant personality also revealed that he plans to step away from social media for two months, describing the break as an opportunity to reflect and focus on personal growth. According to him, the decision comes after spending a decade creating fitness and wellness content online.

“I’m just taking a break from social media for like, two months,” he explained, describing Osaka as his “healing place.”

He also shared that he has stepped away from maintaining his online presence altogether, saying, “From 500,000 followers to just not doing content at all.”

While some netizens welcomed the apology and praised Espiritu for taking accountability, others remained unconvinced. Online discussions following the interview showed a divided response, with some users questioning the timing and sincerity of the apology, while others speculated that the public statement was a calculated public relations move aimed at repairing his image.
