Quezon City logged 84 COVID-19 cases between June 11 and July 1, while health officials say the increase should not cause public alarm—for now.
COVID-19 cases are on the rise in Quezon City, and possibly across the rest of Metro Manila. Authorities say the numbers are no cause for alarm—for now—but are still advising the public to be cautious.
The Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division (QCESD) said confirmed infections reached 84 cases between June 11 and July 1, up from 23 cases recorded between May 21 and June 10. This brings the city’s total confirmed cases this year to 146.
The QCESD said it has received reports that other cities in Metro Manila have also recorded increases in COVID-19 cases over the same period, but no other local governments have reported their numbers.
No cause has been identified for the sudden uptick in local cases. The Department of Health (DOH) has also yet to determine the COVID-19 variant currently circulating.
Despite the localized spike, the DOH said COVID-19 cases remain down nationwide. As of June 20, the country had recorded 719 total cases in 2026, compared to 3,579 cases during the same period last year.
Even with the low numbers, health authorities warned the public to continue taking precautions against the virus due to its easy transmissibility and serious risks to immunocompromised patients.
Due to the ongoing rainy season, people are more at risk of contracting W.I.L.D. diseases (water-borne, influenza-like, leptospirosis, and dengue), including COVID-19.
