Vogue’s Anna Wintour praises tennis sensation Alex Eala’s passion for fashion ahead of the US Open.
Iconic fashion figure Anna Wintour has taken notice of Filipina tennis star Alex Eala’s stylish presence on the court.
In an interview with the website US Open, Wintour, the global editorial director of Vogue, highlighted Eala’s growing interest in fashion, pointing to the young athlete’s stylish on-court looks.
She also drew comparisons between Eala and tennis icons Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka, both known for using fashion as a form of self-expression. “Well, I think it’s really interesting, especially when you look at players [like] Serena or Naomi, who really embrace fashion and express themselves with it,” said Wintour, who is also the former editor-in-chief and current global chief content officer of Condé Nast.
She then turned her attention to Eala, noting how the young Filipino tennis star is already showing a strong interest in fashion.
“And we have the young Filipino star… you could see even in such a young star how interested she is in fashion and how she wants to learn about it and follow it,” Wintour added.
For the fashion powerhouse, the growing connection between sports and fashion is something worth celebrating. “And I think it’s great, it’s wonderful how sports and fashion have become this wonderful sort of marriage,” she said.
Eala is currently in the United States as she gears up for a busy schedule at the upcoming US Open, where she is set to compete in both mixed doubles and women’s singles.
She will kick off her US Open campaign in the mixed doubles tournament alongside Felix Auger-Aliassime. The pair are scheduled to face Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils in the opening round.
Eala will also take part in the Stars of the Open exhibition event on August 28, where she is set to face Iva Jovic.
Meanwhile, the women’s singles draw is scheduled to be revealed on August 27.
