New rules require Filipino travelers to ensure their visas, documents, and declared activities accurately match their purpose of travel.

Filipinos traveling to China will need to pay closer attention to their visas, documents, and declared activities as Beijing tightens its entry and exit rules starting September 15.

The Philippine Embassy in Beijing warned Filipino travelers to make sure their visa category matches what they actually plan to do in China, whether for tourism, business, study, or other purposes.

Chinese authorities may now ask travelers to provide supporting documents or other records to verify that their declared purpose of travel is genuine and lawful, according to the embassy.

Submitting fake documents or deliberately providing false information can lead to a rejected visa application or a ban on entry.

Filipinos using visa or immigration agencies are also advised to check whether these firms are properly registered with Chinese immigration authorities before turning over their documents or relying on their services.

The new rules stem from State Council Decree No. 841 and reinforce existing requirements on document authenticity and the lawful purpose of a foreign national’s stay.

The embassy clarified that the changes do not prevent legitimate travel to China or make ordinary visa applications more difficult for travelers who comply with the requirements.

However, the new rules make accuracy more important for Filipino travelers from the visa application stage through arrival at the border.

Questions on Chinese immigration requirements may be directed to China’s National Immigration Administration through its 12367 hotline or official website, while Filipinos needing consular assistance may contact the Philippine Embassy in Beijing or the nearest Philippine consulate in China.
