Their long-awaited pairing unfolds in a story where family ties clash with sworn duty.

Richard Gutierrez and Barbie Imperial are finally sharing the screen in “Blood vs Duty,” marking their first project together as a real-life couple, and turning a long-standing “what if” into must-watch television.

“I’ve always wanted to work with Barbie. We’ve both been working hard for years, and it started as a simple ‘what if’ conversation. Now, it’s finally happening, and it’s exciting,” Gutierrez told reporters during the recent media gathering.

Imperial echoed the sentiment, adding: “We’ve wanted to work together for a long time, so I’m very grateful for this opportunity.”

A high-stakes creative collaboration

Backing this high-stakes pairing is ABS-CBN’s JRB Creative Production, which brings “Blood vs. Duty” to life as a gripping action-drama about two opposing sides bound by fate, and pushed to their limits by circumstance.

Under the direction of FM Reyes, Bjoy Balagtas, and Rico Navarro, and developed by Dindo Perez, Cenon Obispo Palomarez, and Jann Mendoza, the series dives into the world of government agents taking on illegal gun violence while peeling back the human stories caught in between.

“‘Blood vs. Duty’ is about people who are meant to be connected but are separated by circumstances. It’s not just separation, there’s something bigger at play, like destiny pushing them into conflict, when in fact it may be a way to resolve deeper issues,” Palomarez shared.

For Reyes, the goal is just as grounded: “The vision is to help viewers see what’s happening around us.”

At the center of it all is Gutierrez as Agent Marcus, a man defined by duty, alongside Gerald Anderson as Jalil, a Moro Muslim whose community is pulled into the crossfire—marking their first television project together.

Star-studded cast and streaming dates

The cast also features Bela Padilla as Agent Lara in her teleserye comeback after nine years, and Imperial as Jamilah, Jalil’s sister, in her first primetime lead role.

Joining the ensemble are Baron Geisler, Rommel Padilla, Susan Africa, Edgar Mortiz, and Jaime Fabregas.

“Blood vs. Duty” starts streaming on Netflix on April 3, on iWantTFC beginning April 4, and on the Kapamilya Channel on April 6 at 8 p.m.
