LTFRB caps taxi booking fees at ₱60 or 20% of fare

Taxi booking apps may only charge up to ₱60 or 20% of the approved fare, whichever is lower, under new LTFRB guidelines.

Taxi booking fees on ride-hailing apps will now be capped at ₱60 or 20% of the total fare, as authorities crack down on unfair pricing ahead of expected surges in demand.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) announced new guidelines on July 18 that cap fees for taxis booked via ride-hailing apps.

Under Memorandum Circular 2025-055, dated July 13, online booking services for taxis can only charge a booking or platform fee of ₱60 or 20% of the total approved fare, whichever is lower.

The guidelines apply to ride-hailing apps and taxi operators with their own digital booking services.

The LTFRB also specified that no booking fee, platform fee, convenience fee, service fee, pick-up fee, or similar charges may be imposed unless authorized by the agency.

The move comes amid increased demand for ride-hailing services with the onset of the rainy season. Consumers have once again called on authorities to crack down on surge pricing and hidden fees that exploit this higher demand while compromising fairness.
