A dine-and-dash claim at a Metro Manila steakhouse draws mixed reactions, with netizens divided over accountability after a viral appeal to cover the unpaid order.

A supposed dine-and-dash incident at a homegrown restaurant was met with charity, but the internet’s reactions are divided between sympathy for the small business and accusations of mismanagement.

Steak to One, a low-cost steak restaurant with three branches in Metro Manila, appealed to the public on June 4 over an unpaid bill worth ₱3,500.

In early May, the restaurant claimed it had accidentally released an order worth ₱3,500 but failed to include it in the customer’s bill. The customer allegedly promised to pay the amount but had since been dodging follow-ups from management.

Aside from staff salaries and business expenses, the restaurant said the unpaid amount is also meant to support their in-house stray animal feeding program.

“While it’s tough for a business to deal with unreturned calls, we are taking this as a lesson to improve our staff protocols,” the restaurant said in a statement.

That same day, Steak to One later updated that a supporter had offered to cover the unpaid bill. The patron insisted that the customer need not repay them, instead asking that the amount be directed to the restaurant’s stray animal efforts.

Many netizens backed the restaurant in its appeal, vouching for the chain’s service and food quality.

However, others called out Steak to One for blaming the customer for what seemed to be operational errors, and also criticized the use of staff and stray animals to garner sympathy. Though a charitable supporter stepped in to cover costs, many netizens emphasized the need for clearer accountability measures.
