Proposed budget also raises AFP modernization fund to ₱50 billion, up 25% from this year.

The government is proposing a bigger daily food allowance for military and uniformed personnel (MUP), while also setting aside more money to modernize the country’s armed forces.

The daily subsistence allowance rose from ₱150 to ₱350 starting January 2026, an increase of ₱200 or about 133%. The government is proposing ₱73.67 billion next year to cover the allowance for more than 583,000 MUP, including the projected increase in personnel.

The government also wants to raise funding for the Revised Armed Forces of the Philippines Modernization Program to ₱50 billion, up ₱10 billion or 25% from this year’s ₱40 billion.

The higher allowance means more money available for meals while personnel are on duty. The bigger modernization fund also directs billions of pesos in additional government spending toward both the people serving in uniform and the equipment needed for their work.

The Department of Budget and Management said the modernization fund will help partially meet the AFP’s requirements and strengthen its capabilities to protect the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
