Designer Michael Leyva shares warm moments of Kris Aquino and sons celebrating First Lady Liza Marcos.
Kris Aquino joined in celebrating First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, who turned 67 on Aug. 21—the same date that marks the death anniversary of the Philippine Queen of All Media’s father, former senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr.
On Saturday, Aug. 22, fashion designer Michael Leyva shared his own photos and a video from the gathering on Instagram. Liza previously posted about the meeting on Aug. 9, captioning it, “Thank you Kris, Josh & Bimby for the lovely advanced birthday cakes! Such a thoughtful surprise that truly warmed my heart. Feeling very blessed.”
Leyva’s post shows Liza blowing out several birthday cakes as Kris and her two sons joined in the celebration.
“Happy birthday to our First Lady, Louise Araneta-Marcos,” he wrote in the caption. “From all of us, may this special day bring you the same warmth, grace, and joy that you continue to share with others. Here’s to another year of creating beautiful things, inspiring others, and dedicating yourself to meaningful work in service of the Filipino people.”
“Wishing you a beautiful and blessed year ahead. May you continue to shine and make a difference in the lives of many. We love you so much mam Liza,” Leyva added.
On Aug. 21, 1983, Ninoy was assassinated at the then-Manila International Airport. His death was widely regarded as one of the catalysts of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution that eventually ended the two-decade rule of then-president Ferdinand Marcos Sr., the father of Liza’s husband, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Despite the political history between the two families, Marcos Jr. has previously said that the Marcoses and Aquinos have remained cordial outside politics.
The connection between Liza and Kris also goes beyond their husbands’ political affiliations. Liza is related by affinity to the Cojuangco-Aquino clan. Her aunt, Rosario “Sari” Cacho, was married to Pedro “Don Pepe” Cojuangco, the elder brother of former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino, Kris’ mother.
Liza has likewise developed a close relationship with Kris’ sons. In July 2024, Josh and Bimby visited Liza and brought her gifts from an overseas trip.
Earlier this year, Kris had a belated 55th birthday lunch with Marcos Jr. and Liza at Malacañang Palace, organized by Leyva.
Kris and Liza were also seen together in 2025 at a birthday celebration for Leyva.
