The Philippine peso lost nearly nine centavos to reset recent gains, while local equities advanced over 110 points to snap a five-day decline.

The Philippine peso lost nearly 9 centavos to close at ₱62.621 against the US dollar on Monday, October 5, 2026, resetting its temporary gains from the previous session after four consecutive dips.

The local currency breached an intraday low of ₱62.75, strengthening by over 7 centavos compared to the previous session’s low of ₱62.825, though it remained above the ₱62 mark.

Equities rebound with 114-point advance

Meanwhile, the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) advanced 114.18 points, or 2.03%, to close at 5,743.21, notching a modest recovery after the previous trading session. The benchmark restarts its upward streak as it inches back to the 6,000 threshold.

Monday’s session kicked off the trading week with contrasting movements across local asset classes. While the peso surrendered part of Friday’s sharp recovery to stay under pressure against the dollar, the equities market staged a broad-based rally to pull back strongly from recent weekly lows.
