SB19 lands 11 Awit Awards nominations, joins presenters lineup

P-pop powerhouse SB19 leads major categories at the 39th Awit Awards while joining the presenter lineup.

SB19 has firmly asserted its dominance over the local music industry once again, securing 11 major nominations at the upcoming 39th Awit Awards. 

Recognized for their groundbreaking project “Simula at Wakas” and its accompanying tracks, the P-pop trailblazers earned nods across recording, performance, songwriting, production, and visual artistry, underscoring the creative depth behind their latest era. 

The group’s critically acclaimed release “Simula at Wakas” is in the running for the prestigious Album of the Year, alongside a nomination for Best Cover Art. 

Leading the track-specific honors is the anthem “DAM,” which pulled in five nominations including Record of the Year, Best Performance by a Group, Best Music Video, Best Pop Recording, and Best Musical Arrangement. 

The cinematic track “DUNGKA” also emerged as a heavy contender, landing spots in the Song of the Year, Best Music Video, Best Pop Recording, and Best Dance/Electronic Recording categories. 

Further highlighting the group’s versatile musicality, the track “TIME” received a nod for Best Ballad Recording, while “8TONBALL” is up for Best Dance/Electronic Recording. 

The quintet’s high-octane collaboration with Popstar Royalty Sarah Geronimo, “UMaaligid,” also made a strong showing with nominations for both Best Collaboration Performance and Best Dance/Electronic Recording. 

Beyond their competitive roster, SB19 is slated to take the stage as part of this year’s official presenter lineup. 

This sweeping multi-category presence reflects a historic pattern of excellence for SB19 at the Awit Awards. The group first made its mark at the 33rd Awit Awards in 2020 by capturing the Favorite Breakthrough Artist of the Year title. 

They followed this initial success with a dominant showing at the 35th Awit Awards in 2022, where the anthem “What?” won Best Global Recording, “Mapa” secured Best Performance by a Group Recording Artist, and “Bazinga” claimed Best Dance Recording.

More recently, during the 37th and 38th Awit Awards in 2024, the group’s global viral hit “GENTO” swept major categories, winning Best Performance by a Group and Best Dance/Electronic Recording, alongside a highly celebrated collaborative win for the track “Kalakal.” 

With multiple songs competing against each other in several categories this year, industry observers and fans alike note that the group’s recognition has evolved far beyond live performance, cementing their status as complete creative forces in the recording studio.
