Scene-stealer alert: 3 things we didn’t know about Sean Lucas of ‘Huwag Kang Titingin’

We all loved to hate (and laugh at) the hilariously exasperating A-Jay in GMA Films’ newest horror flick, “Huwag Kang Titingin.” Now, get to know the breakout comedic relief behind the screams, Sean Lucas!

After this convo with radar Entertainment at the film’s recent premiere night, the Sparkle artist proved that he is just as relatable and funny in real life as he is on the big screen.

A Davao-grown future industrial engineer, Sean first entered the limelight as one of 17 fresh faces launched by the Sparkle GMA Artist Center back in 2022, adjusting to Manila culture. Even so, he admitted that he did not dream of joining show business.

Yet, he was awarded “Promising Actor” at the 2025 Philippine Faces of Success last March. On top of his feature film debut, he currently serves as the backstage host for the network’s P-pop celebrity dance competition, “Stars on the Floor,” on top of his regular appearances on the morning broadcast “Unang Hirit” and the Sunday variety show “All-Out Sundays.”

1. He was a competitive swimmer (with highly relatable insecurities).

Behind the confident onscreen persona, Sean admitted to dealing with childhood insecurities just like the rest of us.

“When I was pretty young, I started out as a swimmer. Pero when I was swimming kasi, I was kind of a chubby kid,” he confessed. He explained that comparing himself to other heavily built swimmers made him incredibly self-conscious, which eventually led him to step away from the sport.

“So siguro that’s something na I was excelling in… sana tinuloy ko na lang siya,” he shared. However, looking back at his career now, he laughed off the childhood regret: “Mukhang okay naman ang kinalabasan ng buhay natin.”

2. His brilliant comedic timing is a total collaborative effort.

Audiences praised his seamless humor and effortless performance in a dark horror setting, but Sean is quick to deflect the praise, humbly pointing to the team behind the scenes.

“It was a total collaborative effort from Direk Frasco [Mortiz], from Sir Ays [De Guzman], from me. They really gave me the freedom to do whatever I wanted or what I thought was right for this character,” he shared.

While he had the creative freedom to play around, Sean expressed deep appreciation for the script and the supportive environment on set. He credits the film’s director and writer for perfectly balancing the scares with the laughs.

“It was written into the script—how they weave the comedy into it seamlessly, how they allowed me in certain moments na parang, ‘Okay, this is the moment na pwede kang bumanat, pwede kang mag-joke.’”

3. His cast bonding happened over a terrifying 4 AM bathroom break.

Imagine being in a dark church or a cemetery at four in the morning, with nothing but towering trees, old gravestones, and the howling wind as company while shooting a horror film. But for Sean and his co-stars Josh Ford and Marco Masa, there was something much more frightening than the supernatural: finding a way to relieve themselves in pitch darkness.

“Mga around 4 a.m., naghahanap na kami ng CR. Hindi ko na lang sabihin kung anong number ‘yon, 1 or 2,” he joked.

Their urgent quest eventually led them to a makeshift restroom—a literal hole in the ground in the middle of the woods. Even so, Sean took one for the team.

“Lumaban ako, sabi ko, ako ‘yong una. Tapos paglabas ko, iniwan na nila ako. Hindi na nila kinaya!” he laughed. Despite the hilarious betrayal in the woods, Sean warmly noted that the unforgettable midnight bathroom break was exactly what brought the boys so close together.
